About Me

My Journey & Experience

Tanya is a qualified and registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA).

Before becoming a counsellor, she had  worked for over 10 years in the disability sector in various roles, including direct care as a Disability Nurse, Case Management, Outreach, and Intake, just to name a few.

Tanya's life took a significant turn in her early 40s when her chronic illness and chronic pain became unmanageable through lifestyle and exercise alone. Chronic pain left her unable to do many of the things she used to enjoy and after seeing what felt like hundreds of specialists that was never ending. There were also the many surgeries with sometimes great results and sometimes not so much.  This lead her to understand that she had to do something different in order to find enjoyment and purpose in life again.

Through engaging in therapy herself, Tanya was able to grieve the person she once was (the old me) and began to accept the person she was NOW and had the potential to become.  This personal journey fuelled her passion for counselling, advocacy and supporting others facing similar challenges as hers - Hypermobile Spectrum Disorder (HSD), late diagnosed ADHD; Endometriosis; Adenomyosis & a few other misdiagnoses along the way.

My Personal Philosophy

As a counsellor, Tanya believes that every individual is unique and deserves to be understood, respected and validated. Tanya's goal is to inspire, encourage, and advocate for those lacking a voice or support networks.

Tanya is committed to creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. She is guided her values of integrity, authenticity, respect, and empathy through fostering a therapeutic relationship built on trust, compassion and validation.

Tanya's lived experiences give her a unique perspective and a compassionate insight as a counsellor, enhancing her empathy and understanding in supporting her clients.

Empowerment & Resilience

I aspire to empower my clients to become self-sufficient and resilient, providing them with tools and resources to navigate life's challenges whilst also provided a safe and non judgemental space  whilst fostering an environment where her clients clients feel empowered to achieve personal growth, find purpose, and gain the confidence to live life on their own terms and to become their own advocates.

Chronic Pain/Illness

Chronic pain or illness can affect every part of your life, from your relationships and work to your mental and emotional well-being. Counselling provides a supportive space to explore your feelings, understand your challenges, and make meaningful changes. Whether you are adjusting to a new diagnosis, dealing with grief and loss, or preparing for treatment, we can help you navigate these difficult experiences. We focus on understanding and managing pain, addressing its impact on your relationships, social life, and career, and helping you cope with ongoing symptoms and treatment setbacks. Our approach also includes improving communication, building self-advocacy skills, managing stress, and developing a plan for flare-ups. Additionally, we address the complex emotions of depression, anxiety, and the fear of the unknown, as well as the trauma and mistrust that can result from medical gaslighting.
